Tony Bonelli; Guitar, Bass, Drums, Voice, Audio Engineering, Rock Band Class
A multi-instrumental musician of 27 years and an independent pioneer rock band class curriculum developer, Tony Bonelli has been dedicated to teaching private music lessons and rock band classes to students from Sandwich, Hyannis and all of Cape Cod since 1997. He stays very much in tune with today’s pop culture and his unique ability to communicate music to his students builds a sincere sense of enthusiasm and real results.
Tony grew up surrounded by classic rock as most of his family members are musicians and/or avid listeners. From age 13 through high school, he practiced and studied music 3-5 hours per day and aced his music theory classes. During that time, Tony performed as a lead guitarist in several bands including original progressive rock band Deviation which received regional press attention for its first demo tapes and notoriety amongst local industry professionals and the band member’s peers for being musically sophisticated and advanced beyond their years.
By his mid-teens, Tony was teaching children from his neighborhood informally and was hired by two different local parents to teach their respective children beginner piano and music theory. His teaching career started more officially in 1997 when he began to aid the director of a budding local music school as a driving force in the school’s development and he continued his involvement in nurturing the school’s growth for 8 years until June of 2005. While there he carried up to 60 students per week and started to develop his rock band class curriculum coaching up to 5 rock band classes per week. For the first 3 years of this time Tony performed 3-5 nights per week as a lead guitarist/lead vocalist in Cape Cod retro show band Daughter Judy and he also devoted a good deal of time to studying guitar, drums and voice privately with some of the area’s most accomplished instructors.
Tony has performed in and conducted business for regionally successful live bands. He has been running his recording studio since 2000 producing several album projects and numerous demo projects. He also has owned a successful live sound reinforcement business since 2000 working with bands that play rock, blues, reggae, ska, and jazz. Through local night clubs Kendrick's and Pufferbellie's he has engineered live sound for R&B, Hip Hop, Rap, and Reggaeton artists including such high profile entertainers as Nappy Roots, Flavor Flav, Sugar Hill Gang, and Mr. Vegas.
In July of 2005 Tony opened Mode 4 Music Studios and after a couple of years of building enrollment he had some of the busiest periods of his professional teaching career boasting a 2-year period where he taught 7 days per week carrying as many as 100+ private students and 8-10 band classes per week. From 2006 to 2012 Tony was hired by Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton for up to 9-10 hours per week in the summers to work with his son Julian on a variety of things ranging from drums, bass, guitar and voice to rock band classes and Pro Tools focused audio engineering classes. From 2007 to 2009 he was a partner in the School to Careers Partnership through Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School taking in an intern 4 days per week during the school year. In July of 2009 Tony achieved a 3.87 GPA with the completion of a Production and Guitar Master Certificate through BerkleeMusic, the NEASC accredited and UCEA award winning online extension school for Berklee College Of Music in Boston. He is a member of ASCAP, a full member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) and an associate member of The Recording Academy. In the winter of 2010, Tony passed the Pro Tools 200 level courses at New England Institute of Art and is now one of only ten Avid certified Pro Tools HD8 Operators (Music) in Massachusetts.
More recently Tony has been refining his production and songwriting skills by working with occasional recording clients, collaborating with others, and by developing his own productions when he has time to get in the studio. He continues to study music and production independently and writes up with select musicians when possible. A few notable engagements in recent years that Tony has been fortunate enough to be involved with include an equipment purchase turned jam session turned writing/recording collaboration with Songwriter/Producer Blake Harnage (formerly of Fueled By Ramen’s VersaEmerge, producer of Versa and most recently producer of contemporary alt rock band PVRIS), a co-write and demo recording with YouTube famous singer-songwriter Melissa Polinar (former contract writer for Warner Chappell), and a one-on-one skype mentoring session with Ryan Shore (2x Emmy award & Grammy award nominated composer/songwriter and nephew of veteran film score composer Howard Shore) which covered several topics including music publishing, music business, composing for film, and mixing for surround sound. Tony is pretty open to potential new collaborations so feel free to be in touch if you are a writer looking for production or collaboration.
